random thought of the moment:THE WONDERS OF THE INTERNET.
Can't quite remember when exactly did the internet come into existence in my life, or rather, for the people of this generation. I do remember having computer lessons in upper primary and i think i created my very awesomely named email account in primary 5. Interestingly (or maybe not), the oldest email in my inbox dates back to March 2002, meaning sec 3 days, from a certain miss koh [one of my 2 oldest bestest friends (: ].. sorry miss gan [my other oldest bestest friend], yours comes at a very distant 2007! I don't know why though. haha.
Can't quite remember how we used to do "research" for school work before the internet became our main (and it seems like the only one now) medium for research. Did we search through stacks of encyclopedia, sieving through texts manually (no ctrl-f button to do the job!) just to find itsy bitsy scraps of info?
Can't quite remember when 'wikipedia' and 'google' became the 2 most used words in the internet hemisphere. Somewhere along the way, yahoo search lost its followers and wiki became my best friend (who needs textbooks and journal papers when you have wiki to rely on!!!).
Can't quite remember when I started using msn messenger to chat (nope, i was never a user of irc or icq, with the annoying oh-ohs!).. I remember a time, a very long time ago, when i was obsessed with emoticons, collecting my emoticon 'empire' and sharing them with friends who requested [i had like haha0, haha1.... haha9, which split over to lol0, lol1... lol9, still seemed like not enough shortcuts for ONE emotion. yes it got THAT ridiculous].. it's now dwindled to one emoticon -- the roaring hamster. that one's too cute to be discarded, lol. I, however, am really glad for the invention of the online chat function. I imagine that without it, it would be so much harder (or less convenient) to keep in contact with some friends. Then again, perhaps then, you could tell who your true true friends are. Those who bother to drop you an email, a snail mail, a mobile text, a phone call, a physical visit... Actually, i don't quite know what i'm driving at.... but thank goodness for msn!!
I, however, can remember when I first started blogging, with this blog. It was in sec 3 (and a check back with the archive shows the first entry being Oct 2003.. 1 point for my memory! wooh!), when we came up with the idea of "the sky family blog".. you girls know who you are ;) i remember being adverse to the idea.. i'm so lazy and my life is like how unexciting and unadventurous.. who wld want to read my blog!! but, not wanting to not fit in (there you go, succumbing to peer pressure), i went ahead and created this blog and eventually posted up some entries much to my own reluctance. entries came in dribs and drapes, sometimes a few in a wk, sometimes one in a few months... i got used to the idea of blogging and blogged everytime I was bored... and this marks entry no 368!
Haha, okay I am sorry if you have really been kind (and bored) enough to read through this entire long wordy entry that seems to be making no point at all. I didn't have a particular point that I wanted to make but I guess it all boils down to being nostalgic.
It's been a good decade or so with the internet becoming such an integral part of life. And I wonder what lies ahead (what amazing and atrocious things that will develop along the way) in the next decade to come. Stay tuned :)
